A team of forest officers used trained elephants from Sakrebyle elephant camp to capture a wild elephant in Karambal forest near Khanapur of Belagavi district.

Following complaints by farmers in Karambal, Chapagaon and surrounding areas in Khanapur, officers brought the trained elephants from the Sakrebyle camp to Khanapur.

The elephants arrived in three trucks on Thursday.

The operation was conducted successfully and the wild elephant was captured, Assistant Conservator of Forests Sunita Nimbargi told reporters.

All the elephants left here for Sakrebyle on Friday.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Maria Christu Raj supervised the operations. Range Forest Officers Srikant Patil and Madhuri Dalwai and others were present.
