The three accused in the case, Khemu Rathod, Sachin Manav and Vishal Jumanal, have been arrested.
A special team has been formed to arrest the remaining accused.
They are now facing the charge of assaulting their workers Sadashiva Basappa Madar, Sadashiva Chandrappa Babaladi and Umesh Malappa Madar. The workers used to live and work in the factory owned by Khemu Rathod.
The workers availed themselves of leave and went home for Sankranti on January 13. The owner called them back to work on January 15. He promised to release the ₹10,000 festival advance they had sought.
But when they came back, Khemu, his son Rohan and the others tied up the workers in a room. They tied their hands and legs and assaulted them mercilessly. They were beaten up with plastic pipes. They later confined the workers to a room. Then on Saturday, at 10 a.m., they took the workers out of the room and assaulted them again.
The number of accused is suspected to be more than five.
The case came to light after the accused, who shot a video of the torture, uploaded it on social media. That was meant to send a message to erring workers, a police officer revealed.
The incident occurred on January 15 and 18 and the video was shared on social media on Saturday.
A case has been registered under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), 126(2), 127(2), 118(1), 109(1), 352, 351(2), 190 of BNS 2023 in the Vijayapura Rural Police Station.
