Governor walks out

The friction between the Tamil Nadu Governor, R.N. Ravi, and the Tamil Nadu government is disheartening. Both the State’s invocation to Tamil and the National Anthem symbolise unity and respect: one is cultural and the other is national. They should not be treated as conflicting. Public walkouts and confrontations between constitutional authorities weaken democratic values. Let us focus on harmony, not headlines.

The Governor has conducted himself well in keeping with the dignity and the glory of the office he occupies despite the criticism heaped on him by local politicians. Media criticism is uncalled for. The State government needs to be severely chastised for its unconstitutional and irresponsible conduct.

It would have been a miracle had his excellency, known for his obduracy, read out the customary address and remained in the House. This is the third consecutive year where he has aired his odd views. Does the Governor not deserve a pat on his back?

Justin Trudeau resigns

The downfall of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was primarily due to internal political strife. But it may redirect India-Canadian relations, when there is a successor and also after Donald Trump assumes office.
