In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rakesh said that it was time for him to pass on the baton. “It’s better I do it when I am in my senses, so that I can overlook the process as well and ascertain whether he’s doing it correctly or not. Tomorrow, if I am not in my senses and I’ll have to pass it on, I will not know what they are making,” he said, adding that there is no guarantee that his involvement as a director would ensure a blockbuster run.
Meanwhile, reports have also claimed that director Siddharth Anand’s production banner Marflix has opted out of the project, reportedly due to challenges in pitching a high-budget superhero film “in the post-Marvel era.”
Bollywood Hungama’s story had cited the film’s enormous budget — reported as Rs 700 crore — for the studios’ hesitancy to commit, adding that it made it harder for Siddharth Anand’s Marflix to find a studio to produce the film with. “The studios were not confident about Krrish at this budget in the post-Marvel era as it has been more than a decade since the release of Krrish 3,” a source had told the portal.
However, in a latest development, a report by India Today cites a source who claimed the budget quoted by previous reports as inaccurate. “Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan had a closed-door meeting and have now decided to speak to studios all across India personally and lock a lucrative deal for the film. Krrish 4 will now be produced by FilmKraft with a leading studio, whereas Marflix will focus on other projects outside of Krrish,” said the report, adding that a new creative team will be entrusted with the responsibility of reassessing the budget of the film.
Krrish 4 has been in the talks for quite some time now. The film was first announced by Hrithik in 2021 on the 15th-year anniversary of the franchise.
Notably, the franchise was launched by Rakesh Roshan with the 2003 sci-fi feature Koi Mil Gaya, which starred Hrithik as a scientist opposite Preity Zinta.
The success of the film led to a sequel, 2006’s Krrish. The film featured Krrish in dual roles, as Dr. Rohit Mehra, the scientist from Koi Mil Gaya, and his son Krishna Mehra, a young man with superhuman abilities who takes on the identity of Krrish. Priyanka Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, Rekha, Sharat Saxena and Manini Mishra were also part of the cast
A third film in the franchise, titled Krrish 3, was released in 2013. Apart from Hrithik and Priyanka, the film also featured Vivek Oberoi and Kangana Ranaut in pivotal roles.
