The City Crime Branch (CCB) of the Mysuru city police has begun investigation into the stone-pelting incident over a derogatory social media post, outside Udayagiri police station on Monday night.

While various sections of the media claimed that eight persons had been taken into custody for the stone pelting and up to 50 people gathered outside the police station on Monday had been identified through video footage, CCB officials made it clear that they were unable to share any information with regard to the ongoing investigation with the media.

It may be mentioned here that the Udayagiri police, after receiving a complaint with regard to a derogatory social media post, had registered an FIR and arrested the accused on Monday. But a crowd had gathered outside the Udayagiri police station in the night and demanded that the accused be handed over to them. Soon, trouble broke out when a section of the crowd began pelting stones, injuring police personnel and damaging police vehicles.

The Udayagiri police on Tuesday registered an FIR in connection with the trouble and handed over the investigation to the CCB, which began its probe on Wednesday.

According to sources, CCB was reviewing not only the social media videos, but also the relevant CCTV footage following instructions from Home Minister G. Parameshwara to arrest those involved in creating trouble outside the police station and take action as per law against such persons.

Meanwhile, the road leading to Udayagiri police station remained barricaded even on Wednesday while the police took out a march in the area. Shops in the vicinity of the police station remained closed even on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the city police held peace meetings with Muslim community leaders in all police stations of the city ahead of the Shab E Barat. The police have made an appeal to the community leaders to ensure that no untoward incidents takes place during the festival.
