Apple said to rollout Apple Intelligece with iOS 18.1 developer beta this week. All we know so far

Gurman also stated that Apple Intelligence features will be first available to test to software developers via the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 developer beta which will be rolling out as soon as this week. The report stated that this isn’t a typical strategy for Apple, given that the Cupertino-based tech giant usually reserves its follow-up updates until the time the initial version of the software is released to the general public via the stable build. 

If the report does turn out to be true, it would mean that the upcoming iPhone 16 series will be shipped without the new AI features like voice note summaries, Siri revamp and ChatGPT integration. Even when the Apple Intelligence start rolling out via iOS 18.1 and iPad 18.1 update, it will not include some of the biggest updates like the ability to use on-device AI for system wide use. 

Gurman states that all the new iOS 18 features will start rolling out via multiple iOS 18 updates by the end of 2024 and first half of 2025. Meanwhile, Apple Intelligence will come to Mac computers via the  macOS Sequoia update. 

While Apple has confirmed that these advanced AI capabilities will initially be available free of charge to users of compatible devices, reports suggest a potential shift towards a subscription-based model in the future. Gurman had earlier stated Apple may introduce a premium tier called “Apple Intelligence+” in the future that could offer exclusive AI features for a monthly fee, akin to its existing subscription services like iCloud and Apple Music.
